Building My Business and Building Me: What I’m Taking Into 2025

Updated: 20 minutes ago

Dear Friends,

With 2024 behind us, I find myself reflecting on the journey I’ve been on—both in my business and within myself. It’s been a year of profound learning, growth, and change. I turned 50, celebrated 10 years of marriage, faced personal and professional challenges, and learned lessons I’ll carry with me into 2025.

But while I could spend time looking back, I’m choosing to look ahead—towards the future and the lessons that will guide me into the new year.

What I Learned in 2024:

Building a business has been a dream come true. It’s given me freedom, flexibility, and a chance to design a life aligned with my values. But it hasn’t come without its struggles. This year unearthed fears I hadn’t expected—fears about financial security, my worthiness, and whether I was doing the right thing. The journey of facing these fears, of learning to sit with discomfort and move forward despite self-doubt, has been a significant part of my growth.

This all highlighted the importance of vulnerability. My friendships—deep, authentic connections—became the spaces where I could shed my masks and show up as I truly am. These relationships have helped me remember my worth when I struggled to see it myself. They reminded me that I don’t have to do life alone, and this realisation has been transformative.

In 2025:

With these lessons behind me, my goal is to step into 2025 with courage, clarity, and a commitment to continue believing in the magical possibilities of life—both personally and professionally. I am determined to remind myself of how far I’ve come every time the doubts and fears and the “be realistic thoughts” kick in. Here is what I’m carrying with me help me:

Trust the Process:

Growth is rarely linear, and it’s often messy. I’m embracing the discomfort and uncertainty that come with growth because that’s where my true strength lies. I’m learning to trust the process, even when it’s uncomfortable, knowing that it’s all part of the bigger picture.

Prioritise Emotional Support:

In 2025, I’ll continue to build my community—surrounding myself with people who see me for who I truly am. I’ll nurture relationships that allow me to be vulnerable and authentic, without the pressure to be perfect. I’ve learned that real growth happens when I’m supported, and that support system is essential for my continued success. Whether it is real friendships, relationships, a coach, or a therapist, find your tribe, find your community. This is the space where you can be yourself and ultimately find your joy.

Focus on Self-Belief and Compassion:

Believing in myself, even when it’s hard, is non-negotiable. Self-belief isn’t about having everything figured out; it isn’t about “positive vibes only”; it’s about having faith in my potential and being kind to myself along the way. In 2025, I’ll keep showing up for myself—trusting in my journey and my purpose.

Own My Story:

My story—my challenges, my growth, my triumphs—is my strength. It is one of courage, taking risks, trusting my voice, and resilience. In 2025, I’ll continue to own every part of my story. I’ve learned that the obstacles I face aren’t a reflection of my worth, but rather the very things that will expand my world, connect me with others, and help me define my success on my own terms. My story is the cornerstone of my coaching, enabling me to connect with my clients more profoundly.

Building Resilience Through Vulnerability

As I look ahead, I’m more committed than ever to the work I’m doing—not just in building my business, but in continuing to build me. The lessons of 2024 have shown me that vulnerability, that feeling fear and doubt are not weaknesses, but strengths. It’s through vulnerability that I connect with others, grow, and evolve. It reframing fear and doubt as signposts that I'm on the right track that helps me push through the discomfort. This year, I’ve learned to embrace the full range of emotions and experiences that come with being human, and I’m carrying this lesson forward into 2025.

As I ring in the new year, I’m reminded that fear and doubt are a natural part of the process, but so is resilience. I’ll keep moving forward, letting my deeper wisdom guide me through whatever comes next. Growth isn’t about erasing fear; it’s about moving forward alongside it. Our deeper wisdom is there if we just trust ourselves, believe ourselves, and believe in ourselves. It is that wisdom that leads us to the life of our dreams.

What’s Next?

“Words are, in my not so humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic, capable of both inflicting injury and remedies.” — Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

We’ve been watching a lot of Harry Potter over the holidays. And as a former journalist I know firsthand the power of words. However, it's the words we speak to ourselves that is the gamechanger for me. Our inner dialogue can be the most powerful force for either limiting or unleashing our potential. This year, I invite you to be more intentional with your words—choose them carefully, talk to yourself the way you would talk to your best friend who needs support, use them as a source of magic to manifest your dreams.

I also invite you to give yourself the opportunity and the space to believe in all that is wonderful about you, after all, the evidence that you can compile about you will prove it. Give yourself the chance to believe in what is possible rather than what your fears will tell you is impossible. Notice how your heart will feel light and lifted. Notice how your energy will feel light and lifted. Follow that. Hold onto that. That is your life force urging you to nurture that feeling.

I hope these reflections offer you some clarity and comfort. Maria Nemeth, PhD, writes in The Energy of Money:"Life is hard when you don't do what you truly value because you are puting all your energy into trying to get rid of your fears rather than into materialising your dreams." In 2025, I invite you to redirect your energy into what truly matters—your dreams, your growth, and your belief in yourself.

I wish you a year of beautiful moments with those you love. I wish you a year filled with so many heart-expanding insights, growth, and support along the way. I wish you and your loved ones good health and peace of mind. If you’re facing challenges, may you find patience with yourself, taking each moment as it comes because amidst all the uncertainties that we feel in life, one true certainty is that life is always moving and changing. So why not start believing it is moving and changing in your favour?
